Celebrate Mother's Day with the Hummingbirds!
Mother’s Day is approaching, and this momma literally does it ALL! The males are not involved in building the nest or birthing/raising the young, so momma hummingbird is stuck doing all the work around the nest. She builds the nest by herself out of lichen, plant fibers, and spider webs, lays 1 to 2 eggs that are incubated for 11 – 18 days and will then feed her young insects and nectar for another 3 weeks before the babies are able to fly for the first time.
The saying “a mother’s work is never done” could not be truer. Since males are so aggressive towards other hummingbirds, the female will try to avoid nesting too close to his territory. Try one of our High Perch Hummingbird Feeders with our WBU Nectar for the best way to attract them. Add additional feeders if the male is hogging the feeder and chasing off the female. 🥰
